Classes for All Ages

EDUCATION

“Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105

Your journey with Christ is taken one step at a time.  When you are new to Christ, there is a lot to learn.  For a long-time Christian, there is even more! The Bible and its teachings can transform based on one’s life experience.

You are never too old or too young to start a study. Classes range from the basics to deeper levels of thought. Ask us which class is best for you. We offer Disciple and Covenant Bible Study, Sunday School at 9:30 AM (over 8 adult & 7 children's classes), Wednesday Evening Studies, New Methodist Class, Spiritual Gift Discovery, and seasonal studies. All are welcome.

During Covid, we have an onlines class - please call the office to learn more.

Fully Alive – Room A:  A group-driven class of middle-age and senior adults.  They enjoy lively discussions, using the Bible and some Cokesbury resources for study.
Grace – In the Sanctuary (behind the pulpit):  This class uses a DVD/lecture discussion format and is multi-generational.
Genesis – Room B:  This class style is coffee-and-conversation discussions. They use a variety of study resources including current events and minister-led video/book series.
Today’s Scripture – Parlor:  This multi-generational class discusses the scripture and sermon topic of the Sanctuary service that day.
Wed Night Studies –  Ongoing and new classes introduced periodically. Individuals meet in small groups, deepen their Christian walk, develop their testimony, and learn to verbalize God’s impact on their daily lives.

CHILDREN & YOUTH

Jesus knew the importance of children and their relationship to Him. We offer ways for children to learn about God and His son, the Bible and its teachings, and prayer. Although it becomes a child’s decision to follow by accepting Christ through Confirmation, we, the members of JUMC, make a promise to our children to walk with them and provide guidance at every step.

Sunday School
Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM, we offer classes for toddlers through high schoolers.  Children are grouped by grades and have a Bible-based curriculum.

  • Toddlers have crafts in our nursery environment.

  • Pre-K through third grades use an age-appropriate study.

  • Fourth and fifth graders come together for study on Bible basics.

  • Sixth grade Confirmation Class – this year the children will be taught what it means to be responsible for God’s calling in their lives. In the Spring, students can be confirmed.

  • Junior and Senior High meet to discuss living as a Christian. Everyday situations are discussed so that Christ’s guidance is ever-present.

Children’s Church (10:30 AM on Sunday)
After the children’s message during the 10:30 AM services, the children are escorted to the children’s wing for services designed especially for them.

Vacation Bible School: morning & evening sessions
This week-long summer adventure for kids through 6th grade is a highlight for children and adults alike. We offer morning and evening sessions and split the children into preschool and elementary ages.

Preschool at Jefferson (see page)

Wednesday Nights (6:30-7:30 PM)
After our WOW dinner (6 PM) we offer children’s choir and other children's activities.

456 JUMP Street (4th, 5th & 6th graders)
This group of early teens get together for fellowship and mission projects. Through their quarterly meetings, they bond as a group and are encouraged to attend church.

Confirmands (6th graders)
Children in 6th grade spend the school year studying to accept Jesus as their personal Savior and become a member of Jefferson in May. This study goes over Bible basics, Methodist history, and aspects of Christianity.

Youth (7th - 12th graders)
A relationship with Christ can be the backbone of a young adult’s future.  During the college years, many young adults fall away from church. Through United Methodist Youth Fellowship, we give them guidance to develop their own relationship with Jesus so that He may love them through whatever may come their way. UMYF meets on Sunday evenings from 4-6 PM in the Youth room, and other days when there are special events. The focus for the time is fun, fellowship and faith. Also available are Sunday school classes at 9:30 AM. There is also a summer mission trip in June.

GROUPS

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.” - Jeremiah 17:7

Today, society can dictate life.  We provide activities for adults to fellowship and stay focused on being a Christian as the world pulls them in too many directions.

Senior Adults (SALT)
Our Senior group gets together for a Wednesday monthly luncheon at church or a restaurant.  Keeping active and in fellowship is one way to support each other and to be aware of individual needs.

Covenant Groups
Based on the ideals of Methodist founder, John Wesley, our covenant groups bring people together to share, develop friendships, and find their place in the larger community. Each group determines their agenda, meeting place, and time.  We currently have two groups meeting with more planned for the future.

Prayer Group
Tuesdays at 5:15 PM, a group of individuals meet in the parlor to pray for those in need in our community.

Men's & Women's Groups
Our United Methodist Men is very active organizing pancake breakfasts and support other activities of the church. We have men's prayer group, monthly fellowship dinner and Bible study. Our Women's Ministry sponsors an annual beach retreat, monthly fellowship dinner plus various missional opportunities.

Alcoholics and Overeaters Anonymous
We are honored to host both groups at our church. Everyone is loved by Christ and deserves an opportunity to heal and find their place. Please see their sites for days and times.

Fourth Day Reunion
For those who have participated in Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus, reunion groups meet monthly to keep the spirit of your weekend alive.

Angels Softball
Every spring through the summer, the Angels take flight in the Methodist softball league. All abilities welcome. Kids enjoy hanging out during practice.

CARING MINISTRIES

It is our honor to be called upon to care for the needs of our congregation whether it be through prayer (with over 100 strong praying daily), visitations either at home or at the hospital, providing food or other needs. Our We Care Ministries helps during times of bereavement, as well as the joy of birth. You do not need to be a member to receive care for Jefferson. Email us and let us know your needs.
